Hi there! I’m Laura, a seasoned dog trainer and author of the book The Vet Says Rest, available on Amazon. With over 20 years of experience as a dog owner and 15 years as a professional dog trainer, I’ve dedicated my career to enhancing the lives of our furry companions. My extensive experience includes managing the needs of dogs in various situations, including during those sweltering hot days.

At home, I share my life with four beloved dogs, including two high-energy breeds, which gives me first hand insight into the challenges of caring for dogs when the weather gets hot. My passion lies in helping dog owners navigate these challenges, offering practical solutions and creative ideas to keep your dog happy, cool, and healthy, no matter the temperature.

I am not a stranger to enrichment and during her crate time she had stuffed Kongs, lick mats, snuffle mats and new toys to keep her brain active - including a mango toy that I highly recommend 🥭 Despite all this she was bored and frustrated and had bursts of energy when out of the crate. She began yawning, lip licking and paw licking when crated - all signs of stress 😢It was an emotional and tiring fortnight. Now, having been told that the recovery from TPLO is 6 weeks, I knew I needed more help. I saw in the group that Laura (the author) had written a book. It arrived yesterday. So first of all it is very easy to read and digest. As I said, I completed it in one evening. Laura’s style is straightforward with no jargon making the information easy to understand and apply. Not only can the tools and techniques be used for a dog in this situation, they can easily be applied to any situation where your dogs needs to be calm, confined, enriched or even just to build the bond between dog and owner.

This is very informative and I’m delighted to have this to hand for future use. The author is an experienced dog owner and professional trainer, so brings enormous knowledge to this slim volume which is packed with ideas. While focusing on when your dog needs to rest, it’s also really useful as a source of enrichment activities.
