Cool, Calm Canines

Having a dog who barks, lunges, spins on the lead, or freezes when they see another dog or person can make everyday life feel stressful. Walks become a game of dodging triggers, and it’s easy to feel on edge before you’ve even stepped out the door. You’re not alone—and it doesn’t have to stay this way.

The Cool, Calm Canines programme is here to help. No forcing your dog to make friends, no overwhelming group walks—just simple, game-based training that teaches your dog how to stay calm and feel safe around the things that currently worry or excite them.

This isn’t about turning your dog into a social butterfly. It’s about teaching them a neutral response to the world around them, so those barking, lunging, spinning moments become a thing of the past. You’ll also learn to read your dog’s body language and signals, so you know when they need a little extra support from you—and how to give it.

We focus on building calmness, trust, and focus through fun, achievable activities that work in real life. And you won’t be doing it alone—I’ll be with you every step of the way.

What We Cover

This isn’t about forcing your dog to be friendly or “fixing” their behaviour with gadgets and corrections. It’s about playing fun, purposeful games that help your dog feel safe, confident, and able to make better choices.

Through five core games — Kong Quest, Engage Mode, Nose Down, Head Up, Let’s Go, and Get Me Out of Here — your dog will learn how to:

• Relax and decompress while out and about
• Check in and focus on you when things feel tricky
• Stay calm and curious around dogs, people, or anything they find scary
• Move away quickly when needed, without panic or drama
• Tell you when they need more space—and trust that you’ll listen

We’ll also work through real-life scenarios like managing walks in busy areas, responding to unexpected triggers, and spotting the signs that your dog is starting to struggle—so you can support them before things escalate.

It’s all designed to help your dog feel calmer and more in control—so walks (and life in general) become more peaceful for both of you.

How the Programme Works

Cool, Calm Canines is a flexible, step-by-step programme designed to support both you and your dog—at your own pace, in a way that works for your lifestyle. There’s no pressure to move on before you’re ready, and no requirement to join a group class unless that’s something you feel confident doing.

Here’s how it works:

Phase 1 – Learn at Home
Start with the online video library, where you’ll learn the core games and begin training at home—somewhere your dog feels safe, calm, and able to concentrate. This is the ideal environment to lay the foundations before introducing any real-world challenges.

Phase 2 – 1-2-1 Support
Once you’ve got started, you’ll book a 1-2-1 session with me—either in person at my peaceful countryside venue or online via Zoom. This is your chance to build on what you’ve learned, get tailored feedback, and work through anything that’s feeling tricky.

Phase 3 – In-Person Assessment
If you’d like to join a group class, this in-person session is required to make sure both you and your dog are ready. It’s a relaxed, informal assessment—just a chance for me to check that you’ve got the skills to keep things safe and calm in a group setting. If a group class isn’t the right fit for you at this time, you’re welcome to continue with 1-2-1s instead.

Phase 4 – In-Person Group Class
Now it’s time to practise the games around other dogs in a carefully managed group. Classes are held at my private training venue near Johnshaven, with access to an enclosed paddock, indoor training hall, and private woodland. Everyone in the class has been through the same process, so the environment is calm, structured, and supportive.

You can work through the phases entirely at your own pace, and each one is paid for separately—so you only ever book what feels right for you. If you’re not local, you can complete Phases 1 and 2 online without missing a thing.
